Team member Dan Odorizzi was in Washington DC last week for the 30th Annual NAHU Capitol Conference (February 26-28).
As President-Elect of the North Carolina National Association of Health Underwriters, Dan gave important input to lawmakers while learning about the latest news in health-reform.
During the conference, Dan heard speeches from leaders like Seema Verma (Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) and Nick Buettner (VP of Product for the Blue Zones Project). From their presentations, Dan shared the following information:
- “Medicare for All would be prohibitively expensive. Estimates are around $32 trillion over ten years with an average tax increase of $24,000 per household.”
- “84% of all U.S. medical costs are explained by physical inactivity, food choices and portion size, tobacco, and unmanaged stress.”
- “The employer-sponsored health insurance system provides private-sector, market-based coverage for more than 175 million Americans, including those covered by unions. Eliminating the employer tax exclusion would be detrimental to the stability of the employer-based market and would negatively affect middle-class Americans.”
