NC Medicaid Expansion to Launch Dec. 1, 2023
Medicaid expansion will allow more people to get health care coverage. The eligible population will increase for adults ages 19 through 64 earning up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Single adults earning about $20,000 per year or families of three with an annual income of about $34,000 may be eligible.

MEDICAID EXPANSION ENROLLMENT CRITERIA
Most people will be able to get health care coverage through Medicaid if they meet the guidelines. Some of these include:
- Live in North Carolina
- Are Ages 19-64
- Are an US citizen. Non-US citizens with a valid immigration status may be eligible.
- If your household income fits within the list below

Medicaid expansion is expected to provide coverage for the following:
- ~300K members moving from family planning program
- ~100K members currently on Medicaid that lost their eligibility during recertification in the absence of expansion
- ~200K individuals are expected to apply and be eligible for this program in the first two years
HOW TO APPLY FOR MEDICAID
Apply for Medicaid in one of these ways:
- Apply online at epass.nc.gov
- Visit or call your local Department of Social Services (DSS). Find an office near you at ncdhhs.gov/localDSS
- Mail, email, fax or drop off a paper application (English | Spanish) to your local DSS
- Apply online at HealthCare.gov
